"You left after dinner without saying goodbye. I stopped by to see if you're okay." Hunter said pushing his way into the house.
Ochre slammed the door, "if I didn't say I was leaving it's probably because I didn't want to talk to anyone."
Ochre walked around his brother and into the kitchen area he stepped behind the bar and picked up the bottles of juice. He tipped one at his brother in a silent offer.
Hunter nodded his acceptance and sat at the bar while Ochre mixed the drinks.
"What did Dad say about Emrys being at the bar the other day when you asked him?"
"Huh?" Ochre asked forgetting for the time his talk with his dad earlier that morning.
"Dad? This morning? Your were going to ask him why Emrys was at the bar?"
"Oh, right. Dad said she was doing an independent investigation. I guess it had something to do with her mom and dad." Ochre put the drink down on the bar in front of his brother.
"Could be," Ochre said looking away from his brother.
"Come on bro. You know more than you're telling," Hunter accused, "what is it?"
"Has mom and dad told you what they plan to do about the inheritance?" Ochre asked.
"They finally talked to you then. They talked to me and Saffron ages ago," Hunter admitted, "they were just waiting for you to come back to talk with you directly."
"And you're okay with that," Ochre asked.
"Okay with what," Hunter asked back.
Ochre put his head down at the look his brother was giving him. He wanted to just drop it but he did bring it up in the first place.
"Are you okay with them making me the heir. I'm not an O'Malley after all."
"Now I know why Toya and Emrys are always saying you're an idiot," Hunter said shaking his head. He leaned forward in his seat, "You, Ochre Palette, are my brother. And family isn't about names but about the ties between people. The only one saying you're not an O'Malley is you. Maybe you need to think about why you don't consider yourself an O'Malley."
Ochre said nothing turning back to the window and the sims passing on the street.
"You know how I feel Hunter."
"And what's so wrong about it Ochre? It doesn't hurt anyone. Pretending you don't feel is causing a lot more pain."
"For you," he continued, "and for her."
Ochre didn't say anything. He was trying not to remember the look on her face when she accused him of not caring. The truth was he cared too much.
"She's family Hunter," his voice so low it was nearly a whisper.
"But she's not your blood," Hunter stated.
The stool scraped across the floor as Hunter stood up, his still full glass on the bar. "Look, Toya and I are on vacation this week. We're going to visit down town where they are holding a 'Plum Day Festival' all week. I thought you might want to join us for a day or two."
Ochre turned to his brother who was leaving, "What is Plum Day?"
Hunter turned back and smiled, "I have no idea but Toya wants to find out so we're going to check it out. Later bro."
Random Ramblings
So the great simmers on the Storyteller Group have been doing crossovers lately. Since Hunter and Toya don't get much limelight here they volunteered to go check out the Plum Day festivities hosted by CathyTea. You can check out events by going here...CathyTea's Plum Day...
So I think I hinted a lot more heavily at "events" in this chapter. Anyone have any idea what they were?
