Chapter 2.17: Breaking In

     "Keep an eye out while I get this open," Toya said from where he was kneeling in front of the door.

     Emrys did a quick inspection of the front yard while he fiddled with his lock picks trying to open the door.

     "Got it," he said a couple minutes later.

     Toya stood up and opened the door, "after you."

     "So gentlemanly," Emrys teased as she walked inside.

     "Check the first floor I'll look on the second floor."

     "Right.  I'll call you if I find anything," Toya said passing the stairs and continuing to the back of the house.

     At the top of the stairs Emrys did a quick count of doors.  Three in front of her and another two when she looked towards the front of the house.

     She started with the door on her right.  A bathroom.  A quick search turned up no unusual items.  Just the usual bathroom paraphernalia.

     She closed the door and opened the next.

     "Bingo," she said.  She turned on the radio and waited while Toya was paged.

     "You found the computer?" he asked over her earpiece.

     "Yep.  Top of the stairs, straight ahead."

     "Be right there."

     Emrys bypassed the computer and started browsing the books.  She pulled books down and leafed through them searching for loose papers.

     By the time she got to the fourth book Toya entered the room and booted up the computer.  Neither one talked while they worked.  As soon as she finished searching the books on one shelf she checked the wall behind it for any anomalies.

     They had been searching for nearly two hours when Emrys heard something.

     "What was that," she asked putting down the book she was leafing through.

     "Sounded like a toilet," Toya looking at her.

     "Keep working.  I'm going to investigate," she said before exiting the room.

     Once outside the door she paused and listened.  Willing her heart to slow she held her breath and waited.

     Second floor, she decided when a floorboard creaked.

     She stepped silently toward the doors at the front of the house.  One door revealed another bathroom which she closed silently.

     Behind the second door was a bedroom.  Emrys opened it slowly and stopped when she caught sight of the sim sitting on the bed.  She was about to close it when she realized she was familiar to Emrys.

     Pushing the door open, Emrys stepped inside the room.

     "Mom?"
