Chapter 1.28: Captive

Rachael felt groggy as she woke from her nap.  Her mouth felt like cotton and a spring in her bed was digging into her side.  She opened her eyes.  The color of the bed sheet was wrong, there was side table next to the bed and another bed on the other side of that.

This wasn't her room.  Rachael jerked upright.

     "Oh look.  It's finally awake."

Rachael looked over where the voice came from.

At the foot of the bed was the sim that tried to take Ochre from the park and sitting in the chair turned towards the bed was a sim that almost looked familiar to Rachael.

"Who are you?" Rachael asked.  "What am I doing here?"

"Don't worry sweetcheeks you're not important to me.  You're just the collateral I need to get my son back."

Mention of a son clued Rachael in to what was familiar about this sim.  Her face had the same shape as her dear little boy's.

"You must be Eve.  What makes you think Lean would ever let you have his son?"

Rachael watched as the sim got up and crossed the room towards her.  When she stopped in front of her Rachael braced herself for her reaction.

It still surprised her when the sim drew her hand back and slapped her across the face.  Rachael felt her head snap to the side with the force behind the blow but she refused to make a sound and give her that much satisfaction.

"He is my son.  Cerulean stole him from me but I will get him back." the sim hissed in Rachael's face.

"Funny, cuz he calls me mom," Rachael looked her in the eye.  She refused to be cowed by this crazy sim.

She pulled her hand back to hit Rachael when another sim entered the room.

     "What's going on?"

"This witch says my baby is calling her mom."

Grey walked over and pulled Eve's hand down, "easy Eve.  We need her unharmed if you're going to get the boy back.  Once you have him it won't matter what he called her."

"She only needs to be mostly unharmed."

"Enough." Grey snapped and shook the sim by the arm he held.

"I should have known it was a lie."  Rachael said from her spot on the bed, "Lean would have called me if he had information about Becks."

"True," Grey said letting Eve go and watching her return to her seat.  "Make yourself comfortable.  You'll be here awhile.  After all hostage negotiation takes time."

"Let's go Eve," he said and walked with her out of the room leaving Rachael alone with their henchman.

Rachael didn't say anything but settled herself against the headboard of the bed and watched as he settled at the table with a pack of cards and set up a game of solitaire.
